A flash from the wild
"Hush now, sweet child,"
But outside the monsters howl
It starts so slow
Like the on-coming spring
Though no sweetness will it bring
It's just here for the show
A steady, horrid beating
Growing harder and faster
Killing all laughter
In this cruel meeting
Somehow I'm not afraid
Though I should know fear
This monster holds nothing dear
It cannot be reasoned or swayed
Still I stand with it
Thought it roars so loud
Showing off, so proud
I'll keep about my wit
For soon it will go
It will calm, hush, leave,
We'll have a reprieve
Of this I certainly know
So let the monster scream

But in the dark I cannot stay
For in the dark the monsters play
And they'll pull me down into the deep
Where I will waste away.

There is no need to weep
There is no need to fear."
But in the silence I cannot be
The silence rips and tears at me
And in the darkness it will keep
Lock me up and toss the key.

But I will not go to sleep

In which all things lovely are you?
And am I to say that you have no peer
And write lies about my love too?
I suppose you'd like me to say many things--
How ugly Aphrodite is when at your side
Or how we're bound beyond soul and rings
How there's none the same far nor wide
You'd like me to write our eternal flame
But recall every fire eventually dies
And your naivety is such a great shame
Your vanity as endless as the skies
I will admit, though you're a bore,
You are sweet, patient as can be,
And it is you above others I adore
You're simply the one for me
